The Master Class season runs from autumn to spring. Participation is very simple – register with a team and solve the real-life client challenge of five video modules. In the Master Class, you take a seat in a lawyer’s chair!

The Master Class is Eversheds Sutherland’s student programme for ambitious law students looking to build on their academic knowledge. The programme includes five video modules, which can be accessed online.

To participate, form a team of two to three law students.

How to participate?

It’s easy! On the day the module opens, your team will visit the Eversheds Sutherland Ots & Co career page and watch a short video presenting the client’s problem. You will then answer multiple choice questions on the same website. All modules are just like that.

After the final module, team members with the highest scores will have the opportunity to solve one case individually. This determines the top performers, who will be offered an internship at our firm

The stories of our people

The stories of our people

Tuuli Loho

I joined Eversheds Sutherland after a successful one-month internship in October 2024. I got my internship thanks to a strong result in the Master Class competition: my team achieved second place, which secured our spot in the final, where I was awarded third prize. The award was a paid internship.

What fascinates her most about the job is its versatility. “Since I work daily with the procedures team, which mainly deals with all kinds of court disputes, I get to try my hand in many different areas of law. It’s completely normal to be handling disputes in environmental law and civil law at the same time, or any other combination of legal fields. In addition to the fact that the disputes themselves are all very different, my tasks vary just as much — from gathering evidence to drafting a cassation appeal,” she explains, adding that this constant variety keeps the work fresh and ensures she never gets bored — every task is so different.

“As a lawyer who is still learning, I also appreciate that I can immediately put my theoretical knowledge into practice. A real-life example: just the other day I was listening to a lecture on competition law at university, and during the lecture I suddenly got an idea about how to use what I’d just learned in one of our court cases; thought it — did it. It’s so rewarding to see that what you study at university actually has practical value,” says Tuuli, who joined Eversheds Sutherland straight from the classroom after a successful summer internship, starting in October 2024. She earned the internship thanks to her strong performance in the Eversheds Sutherland Master Class competition for law students.

She encourages others to take part in the Master Class and to apply for a job as well, because in addition to the exciting work, it’s worth joining for the great colleagues. “Our people are knowledgeable, curious, hardworking, and easy‑going. They stand up for the best interests of both their clients and their colleagues. Besides the people who create a pleasant working environment, the work itself is highly motivating — every day brings new challenges and the chance to solve complex problems that require intelligence, creativity, and dedication. Through this, you can contribute to protecting people’s rights and ensuring that the rule of law functions.”

Tuuli especially appreciates her mentor: “My mentor is the coolest mentor in the world, Kaspar Kaljurand. Kaspar was already my supervisor during my internship, and he is exactly the kind of mentor a young lawyer needs by their side — helpful, demanding, supportive, and genuinely invested in my development.” Tuuli adds that both she and everyone around her have only good things to say about Kaspar. “Thanks to him, I’m not afraid of making mistakes, because he understands that mistakes are part of the process; I’m not afraid to ask any questions, because he always helps with both advice and action; and I’m not afraid to say when something is difficult, because he always tries to understand me."

Team spirit at Eversheds is strengthened and kept alive through culturally rich trips abroad, traditional joint events at home, as well as team lunches and celebrations in the office. “Our firm puts a lot of effort into maintaining a sense of unity, and that is a tremendous value. The large number of participants shows that the events are successful and genuinely appreciated,” Tuuli says, adding that shared gatherings always help colleagues get to know one another better.

“As much as I’ve interacted with my colleagues, the people at EvS are like icebergs — at first you only see the tip, but beneath the surface there is so much more. On the outside, you see busy and capable professionals, but once you get to know them, you discover they are warm, open, intelligent, and ambitious people who settle for nothing but the best. I’m truly glad to be part of this and to gradually get to know the whole ‘iceberg.’”
